As shippers desperately seek cost-cutting measures and efficient shipping methods, Trans International, LLC, a pioneer in the logistics and freight landscape, is heeding the call. With the aid of millions of records from data warehouses and advanced analytics, the Wisconsin-based organization is able to steer clients to lowest-priced carriers and efficient shipping methods.
This path to the lowest-priced carrier is made possible using Trans International's customized routing tools, portals for international air spot quote and domestic truck load, and other web-based analytics. Suddenly, shippers have access to unique trends and data, which they can effectively harness to make cost-effective, smarter decisions.
Due to the deep level of technology integration, Trans International wants its customers to view the logistics service provider as an internal department, rather than an external element. However, by its own admission, the organization didn't embrace a tech-heavy approach until 2007, when Jaime Syring and Denise Lawien—daughters of founding father, Tom Schmitt—took over the reins of Trans International.

Upon surveying the industry landscape, Jaime, the CEO, and Denise, the Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, saw the need for products driven by technology and analytics. "After transitioning from a pre-audit firm, we added new services over a period of time and began focusing heavily on analytics. We wanted to show our clients how to look at data in a different way, and make better decisions in their supply chain," says Jaime, also the majority partner, while referring to the pair of sisters as a "dynamic duo that complements one another very well."
Proud to tout themselves as a “100 percent Women-Owned Enterprise,” Jaime and Denise lead a staff that comprises 75 percent female employees. “Diversity is huge in the logistics industry. However, we don’t allow our diversity to define us. We have women in positions of power because they’re the best people for the job,” says Denise.
No matter the ERP system, Trans International is able to interface or customize solutions for its clients. “We always want to be flexible enough to support both transportation and accounting needs, especially since auditing is still a big strength of ours. A lot of these companies don’t have the time or the staff, to deal with transportation issues. By trying to integrate with them, as deeply as possible, we take away their mundane tasks and allow them to focus on the bigger picture,” explains Jaime.
In 2019, Trans International will launch new web-based tools specifically designed for freight carriers. “We acknowledge that without happy carriers, we don’t have happy clients. They are pivotal to our success and our client’s success, too,” concludes Denise, before stressing that the organization will persist with aggressive goals including a targeted 200 percent growth rate.
